In recent years, Pickleball has become quite a national sensation. If you’ve ever been interested in getting onto the court, here are a few tips from JCC’s Director of Sports and Recreation Mike Creemer.
- Buy your own paddle. Invest in a mid-priced paddle and a dozen pickleballs for practice.
2. You might want to get a new pair of gym shoes so you have good support.
3. Watch some YouTube videos on how to play and how to serve.
4. Find a partner to practice with and practice serving and volleying.
5. If you don’t have a partner, come to pick up times and get in games. You can join the J’s Pick-Up Pickleball games!
6. There are no shortcuts to learning a new sport. You just have to do it!
7. Pickleball is a very social sport, so you’re likely to encounter friendly and welcoming players.
8. Don’t worry too much about the rules and scoring; you’ll figure out everything the more you play.
9. You don’t have to be in great condition to play, but some exercise will help, and lateral movement is important!
10. Stay positive and don’t get frustrated. The more you play, the better you will become!
