One of the most startling changes between being a college student and a young professional is the switch from creating your schedule to feeling ruled by it.
But it doesn’t have to end there – you don’t have to accept a lack of control over your routine.
Countless studies and articles tout the value of exercise in both body and mind. That it’s easy to feel stale when you aren’t moving.
But how do you establish exercise as part of your (often hectic) routine? It’s easier than you may think. You make the time. And here’s how:
Step 1: Stay organized. The day can easily slip into chaos, but with a plan created ahead of time, it can help you stick to your original intent.
Step 2: Do what you like. Hate running? Loathe lifting? Then don’t do it. Start with routines and workouts that you enjoy doing. Things that feel more natural to you are more likely to be kept as part of your routine.
Step 3: Bring your friends. It’s so much easier to stay active when you aren’t alone. Conversation can fill the lull and motivate you to push harder. Instead of sitting on the couch together as friends, go to a local park for a walk. You’ll feel more invigorated.
Step 4: Get comfortable. You don’t have to be wearing Lululemon to get in a good workout. Prefer a t-shirt and shorts? Wear what lets you move the way you need to, and feel confident. You’re more likely to return to make it a routine that way.
