George & Anne Heldman
During Anne’s childhood in Westchester County, NY, she learned communal leadership from her parents who strove to assist needy Jewish families during the Great Depression. Anne met her late husband, George Heldman, during college and they soon set down roots in Cincinnati, where the Heldmans had lived for generations. George’s father, Warren, served as a mentor for the couple and inspired them to become active members of the Jewish community. The family has been active in Rockdale Temple and Wise Temple. Together with her children, Anne sponsors a college scholarship through JVS Career Services and they support the Jewish Family Service Barbash Family Vital Support Center.
James Markley
Jim Markley grew up in rural, Eastern Ohio, before serving in the military during WWII in Central Asia. Upon his return, Jim met his late wife, Noretta, and married her after only two weeks. A job opportunity in the Foreign Department of a bank brought the couple to Cincinnati, where Jim soon became a business associate of members of the Jewish community, where he also found friendship and meaning. Jim was an active member of the JCC board, as well as being involved with Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and Adath Israel Congregation. Having grown up in relative poverty, Jim is constantly aware of the less fortunate and has been inspired to leave a legacy through charitable endowments to many organizations.
Judy Roth
Judy was born and raised in Cincinnati to caring, involved parents who set an example for her of giving to and caring for others in the community. She has fond memories of her grandparents and extended family and the traditions and values they passed down. After living in several other cities across the country, Judy returned to Cincinnati, where she has felt the comfort of family.Her family taught her that it is a moral obligation to help others and she believes that it is a responsibility to provide for the next generation, as well. She has been involved in several community organizations and hopes that the example she has set for her children will be a model for them and for their children.
