Jewish Life and Holidays

All Ages

The Mayerson JCC's mission is to connect people so that they can live happier and fuller lives, creating a vibrant Jewish community. That comes to life in many ways, including our programming to engage people in Jewish life and the observance of Jewish holidays.

Overview

We aspire to create a Jewish town square right here in Cincinnati, a gathering place for Jews of all ages and practices, to connect with one another. We create community by offering opportunities to participate in Jewish ritual, spirituality, learning, and culture. Whether that’s through our holiday celebrations, learning opportunities, Tikkun Leil Shavuot (all night learning festival), or our annual Fall Market, we feel the rhythm of the Jewish calendar within our walls. We also uphold our relationship with the state of Israel, from our annual Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day) ceremony to our Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day) celebration, and through speakers and discussions that engage us in enriching conversations around our relationship to Israel.

Did you know we have a Shavuot Pocket Guide? Learn all about Shavuot HERE.

J Serve: Transform Cincy

Off Site
Join us for our very first J Serve project at Transform Cincy, a nonprofit that provides transgender and gender non-conforming youth with free wardrobes and styling services! We will learn about Transform’s new home and the services they provide, connect over food and Jewish learning, and you will get to decide what service you assist with. Choose your own adventure — from cleaning the space, working in the garden and flower beds, sorting and organizing clothing, or actually styling upcoming clients! Volunteers aged 13 – 17 must have a guardian present. This building is currently not wheelchair accessible, as each entrance has stairs. Please reach out with additional accessibility questions.

Yirah: A Night of Awe at the Turning of the Year

This is our inaugural “peak event” for Judaism Unbound’s new 3-year place-based project, Cincy Lab. This first event will occur on the first day of Elul, at the cusp of a new year, as an activator of High Holy Day themes without supplanting traditional congregational High Holy Day experiences.

Under One Roof

Under One Roof Sukkah Art Exhibit

Mayerson JCC Campus
Recurring
Celebrate the festival of Sukkot* this fall with the Under One Roof community art exhibit in our sukkah. The Under One Roof Sukkah Art Exhibit will be on display in a temporary sukkah in the Mayerson JCC courtyard and will feature artwork designed by various individuals and groups as they interpret the central theme, Chai. Chai is the Hebrew word for life. The two letters that make up the word, chet and yud, add up to the number 18. As we celebrate the JCC’s milestone 18th year, we contemplate how this building, and the people within it, have transformed and flourished. What brings the JCC to life after 18 years in this building? Our answer – the community that calls this place home. *Sukkot (often translated as the “Festival of Booths” or “Tabernacles”) is a major weeklong Jewish holiday. It serves a dual purpose: celebrating the fall harvest and commemorating the temporary shelters the Israelites lived in during their 40-year journey through the Sinai desert. Presented by the Rockwern Charitable Foundation. Sponsored by the Rockwern Charitable Foundation, The Friedlander Family, Jean E. Feinberg, and Jen & John Stein.
