Jewish Values

Cincinnati’s Camp at the J incorporates values-based learning where children learn about core values of respect, kindness, and community. Campers learn about Israel and international Jewish life through Jewish culture. At the end of each week, we gather for Shabbat Sing, where we celebrate our JCC camp community and give out weekly awards.

FAQs

Do I have to be a J Member to send my child to Camp at the J?

We have a public rate, but J Members will receive a reduced rate. More information on becoming a member, please contact our membership at membership@mayersonjcc.org

Does my child have to be Jewish to attend Camp at the J?

Camp at the J strives to include all campers. We do not deny admission to our camp, or to the benefits of our program services because of race, color, national origin, gender identity, ability, or age.

What is an advocate?

An advocate is a staff member who is designated to assist a camper who either has a diagnosis or a behavior plan.  This staff member will be 1:1 or 2:1.

Is financial aid available?

Financial aid may be available. Please contact Susan Lyons at slyons@mayersonjcc.org to receive further information.

What should my camper pack each day?

Campers should pack a water bottle, snacks, bag lunch (unless they have ordered the lunch plan), swimsuit, towel, hat, and sunscreen each day. Please label all camper belongings with full name to ensure items return with them each day.

How does lunch work at Camp at the J?

Parents must pack a lunch each day for their child unless they have ordered the lunch plan. Packed lunches will be stored inside an air-conditioned room, but will not be refrigerated. All lunches at Camp at the J are personal and are not to be shared. Personal lunches do not have to be Kosher but are asked to be nut-free.

What should my camper wear to camp?

Campers should wear comfortable shorts and t-shirts that are okay to get dirty. Children are required to bring a mask daily for wearing inside of the J building. For your child’s safety, socks and sneakers (closed toe and heel) are required. Sandals, Crocs, and flip-flops may be packed for swimming or water activities. Pioneers and Trailblazers campers are encouraged to wear their swimsuit under their clothing to camp as they will swim daily before lunch.

Is there an extra charge for camp t-shirts?

All campers will receive one camp T-shirt for FREE.

Might my child’s photo be used in publicity?

Your child’s name, photograph, or video clip may be used by the J in news articles and publications unless we receive a written objection prior to the first day of camp. If you would to request your child not be used in future publicity, please contact us at daycamp@mayersonjcc.org.

What if my child gets hurt at camp?

In the event of a minor accident or injury, first aid will be administered on site. Should the accident or injury require more than basic first aid, 911 will be called and your child will be treated by a professional EMS or transported to the hospital. In this event, a parent or guardian will be contacted immediately.

What are the JCC's guidelines regarding pool safety?

The J has a ratio of lifeguards to patrons 1:25. We hire only experienced/certified lifeguards and provide mandatory periodic testing and in-service training sessions. J lifeguards will always wear hip packs containing basic emergency equipment.

Children under the age of six will be required to be within arm’s length of a guardian over the age of 16. Children under the age of six who are involved in “free play,” or not in a supervised swim class, will be encouraged to wear a flotation device. Only flotation devices provided by the J will be used in our pools.

For more details about our pool safety, please see our Pool Rules.

What are your COVID policies?

Please view our Family Handbook that includes our Health & Safety section, detailing the measures and procedures in place to maintain a healthy and safe environment. More specifically, we have created bunks for campers as one precautionary measure that limits potential exposures and interactions, making contact tracing easier if needed. In addition, campers will frequently wash their hands throughout camp.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

Unfortunately, we do not offer a sibling discount. If your family has a membership through the JCC, we do have financial aid available. Please contact Susan Lyons, Membership Director, at slyons@mayersonjcc.org to receive more information.
