More About Counselors in Training (CITs)

The Camp at the J CIT program is an accredited leadership training that includes classroom courses in leadership, planning, values, and communication, with hands-on experience with camper activities including swimming, specials, and field trips. CITs are campers preparing to be a counselor, specialist, or advocate and will go through a special curriculum to improve their leadership skills.

There are two CIT programs available: A five-week and nine-week program.
Five-week participants will be certified in either mental health OR first aid/CPR.
Nine-week participants will be certified in mental health and first aid/CPR.

Each CIT will keep a journal throughout the program to reflect upon, record, and review their training and experiences. With the guidance of Camp staff, CITs will determine actionable steps to continue their growth and learning.

How to Apply

In order to apply, the camper’s legal guardian will need to fill out the camp application to get the camper started. Once the application is completed, the Camp at the J team will be in contact and set up a CIT interview. Of course, we understand that this will most likely be the first interview your camper will go through so we make sure to explain everything and give a clear expectation of the role at camp.
