Jewish Life and Holidays

All Ages

The Mayerson JCC's mission is to connect people so that they can live happier and fuller lives, creating a vibrant Jewish community. That comes to life in many ways, including our programming to engage people in Jewish life and the observance of Jewish holidays.

Overview

We aspire to create a Jewish town square right here in Cincinnati, a gathering place for Jews of all ages and practices, to connect with one another. We create community by offering opportunities to participate in Jewish ritual, spirituality, learning, and culture. Whether that’s through our holiday celebrations, learning opportunities, Tikkun Leil Shavuot (all night learning festival), or our annual Fall Market, we feel the rhythm of the Jewish calendar within our walls. We also uphold our relationship with the state of Israel, from our annual Yom HaZikaron (Israel’s Memorial Day) ceremony to our Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel’s Independence Day) celebration, and through speakers and discussions that engage us in enriching conversations around our relationship to Israel.

The Wizard of Oz, Youth Edition

Mayerson JCC Campus
Before Wicked there was The Wizard of Oz, a classic tale of courage, friendship and the journey to happiness and self-discovery. Join Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the Land of Oz, determined to reach the Emerald City, where the great and powerful Wizard of Oz will help them get home. Of course, along the way, Dorothy encounters witches (both good and bad), Munchkins, talking trees and winged monkeys. But most importantly, she befriends three unique characters: a Scarecrow with no brain, a Tin Man with no heart, and a Lion with no “nerve.” Their journey to happiness – and self-awareness – is a glowing testament to friendship, understanding and hope in a world filled with both beauty and ugliness. Return to the classic that started it all in this charming production by the talented students of Theatre at the J: Everyone’s a Star. Check out our social narrative about “What to Expect at the Theatre.” Sponsors: In Loving Memory of Edward Cohen, Jen & John Stein, Rick Steiner Productions/Steiner Family Foundation, & Andi Levenson Young & Scott YoungOhio Arts CouncilJewish Federation of Cincinnati
