Yirah: A Night of Awe at the Turning of the Year

This is our inaugural “peak event” for Judaism Unbound’s new 3-year place-based project, Cincy Lab. This first event will occur on the first day of Elul, at the cusp of a new year, as an activator of High Holy Day themes without supplanting traditional congregational High Holy Day experiences.

Through the music and stories of Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchel performed by Rabbi Robbie Schafer and Grammy award-winning artist Danielle Wertz, participants will listen, sing, and connect with one another around the theme of Yirah. The High Holy Days are often called the Days of Awe. Awe, in Hebrew, is Yirah, which also can mean fear or wonder. In an hour of music and story, we will spark new ways to activate wonder/Yirah in our lives, leaving the event with expanded energy around this sacred time in the Jewish calendar.

Sponsored by The Jewish Foundation, Lippman Kanfer Foundation for Living Torah and the Mayerson JCC
