The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the J reports to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for leading the operations of a complex organization, consistent achievement of its mission, and financial objectives. The CEO partners with the Board to establish the long-term strategic direction for the J and to formulate policy. The CEO leads a passionate and long-tenured staff and represents the J in the Jewish and broader communities, promoting the J’s mission and its vital role to all stakeholders.
The CEO is the J’s chief ambassador and builds trust and collaboration with partner organizations throughout the community. The CEO will be active in relationship-building with funders, donors, and partners and play a significant role in achieving the fundraising goals of the organization.

Leadership & Executive Management
- Articulate and implement a shared vision that reflects the unique mission of the J and its impact in the Jewish community and the community at-large.
- Lead, motivate, evaluate, and develop a high-performing senior management team.
- Promote a culture of innovation to continue the J’s trajectory of growth, anticipating trends and identifying opportunities in the community.
- Ensure that the J’s mission, values, and brand are evident and consistent in every aspect of the organization, including its staff and programs.
- Lead staff to ensure that programs are mission-aligned and strive for creativity and excellence.
- Institute consistent methods for program evaluation and adjust as needed.
Finance, Administration, Operations
- Develop an executable annual operating budget in partnership with the finance team, the Finance Committee and Board. The CEO will oversee financial matters including long-term budgeting, ongoing financial performance, risk management and financial strategy.
- Using financial statements and business dashboards to guide and oversee agency performance, the CEO must remain flexible, making necessary changes to ensure financial stability and sustainability.
- Lead strategic discussions about expanding the use of J facilities as well as efforts for community-building outside of the J facilities.
- Optimize the J’s role as a landlord and maintain healthy relationships with all tenants including Rockdale Temple.
- Continue to dedicate resources to ensure safety and security for all staff, members, and visitors.
Community Relations
- Build and nurture meaningful relationships with key partner organizations in the Jewish and broader community.
- Serve as a key spokesperson and representative for the J throughout the Jewish community, the community at large, and with private and public funders and national and international Jewish organizations.
- Have primary responsibility for communications regarding the J’s mission, values, programs, challenges, and achievements
- Effectively manage any crisis that might arise using superior decision-making skills, in consultation with Board leadership and senior staff.
Board Engagement
- Engage the Board in the strategic planning process to shape, focus and prioritize future plans and operations.
- Work with the Board President to set objectives for the Board and its committees and plan Board and Executive Committee meetings and agendas.
- Partner with the Board leadership to identify and recruit new board members
- Act as the primary liaison between the Board and staff
Funding and Fundraising
- Establish a constructive relationship with the leadership of the Jewish Foundation and the Jewish Federation and other key funding partners.
- In collaboration with the Board and the Development staff develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy for the organization.
- Work closely with Board leadership, development staff, and outside consultants to raise funds to enable the J to meet the current and anticipated needs of the community and its members.
- Highly visible in the community, the CEO will reach out and cultivate new potential donors at all levels, including seeking grants from local and state government, foundations, and support from local businesses.
- 10+ years of executive experience and skills developed as a senior leader in another J, a Jewish community organization, another nonprofit, or the business sector with a record of achievement in organizational leadership, team management, and financial health.
- A recognition of trends affecting the Jewish community and a commitment to enhancing Jewish life and culture in Greater Cincinnati. A keen interest and understanding of Jewish culture, practices, and traditions.
- Demonstrated success managing and leading a $15+ million enterprise with profit & loss responsibility, a large, complex facility and 200+ employees.
- Proven record of fundraising success, including knowledge of and participation in individual donor development, planned giving, grant procurement, capital and endowment campaigns, corporate sponsorship, and special events.
- Strong strategic acumen and critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify emerging trends, articulate an inspiring organizational vision and lead a robust strategic planning process.
- Experience reporting to a Board and/or serving as a Board member for a mission-based organization.

- The expansive two-floor Fitness Center includes state-of-the art equipment for members of all skill levels, from those who are just getting started to elite athletes. The J offers small group training, Pilates classes, and private personal training, along with aquatics personal training and swim lessons, and a full-service spa.
- Programs for Children, Teens, & Families have something for every member of the family. The Early Childhood School provides a high-quality, age appropriate Jewish and secular curriculum that encourages development, curiosity, imagination, and self-esteem. J Baby, PJ Library, and other programs support families from before a child’s birth through their early years. Pokémon Club, Camp at the J, and Theatre at the J give kids an outlet for fun and creativity. Jewish teens can explore their identity and engage in Jewish life through March of the Living and the Maccabi Games.
- The J’s award-winning 60 & Better Center offers many wellness, learning and arts classes, day trips, and helpful services. Adults aged 60 & Better are also eligible to receive cost effective meals prepared kosher in the J kitchen, transportation services, Meals on Wheels, Shalom Phone reassurance, and much more.
- Arts, Ideas & Jewish life programs are dedicated to engaging the Greater Cincinnati community through the exploration of Jewish identity and culture in films, literature, music, dance, theatre, visual arts, comedy, and discussions with speakers and thought leaders. Annual programming includes the Mayerson JCC Jewish & Israeli Film Festival, Under One Roof Sukkot Art Exhibit, a Fall Market around Rosh Hashanah, and community nights at the Reds, FC Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati Ballet.
- Athletes of all ages and levels can find a way to participate in the J’s Sports & Recreation programs. The Men’s Softball league, at 80+ years strong, is the J’s longest-running program. Kids can learn the basics of competition through baseball, basketball and soccer, and people of all ages can try their hand at archery and pickleball.
Advocate Coordinator – Camp at the J
The Advocate Coordinator plays a leadership role in planning and implementing staff training focused on mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH), while supervising Advocate Counselors and supporting them with camper-specific programming and accommodations. They provide daily check-ins and coaching, conduct observational evaluations, and assist in creating small group wellness and social-emotional learning programs. In collaboration with the Camp Social Worker, the Coordinator serves as a resource to both staff and campers, ensuring that environments promote thriving and inclusion. Additionally, they manage communication about camper needs, support Advocate Counselors in building relationships with parents, and participate actively in staff and supervisor training.
- Playing a leadership role in the planning and implementation of staff training and ongoing staff learning related to mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health (MESSH)
- Supervise Advocate Counselors and support them with daily informal check-ins and provide camper-specific programming, scaffolding, and accommodations
- Actively promote all-camp inclusion initiatives and reinforce these expectations
- Provide daily informal check-ins and coaching with Advocate Counselors
- Perform two (first half and second half) summer observations for each Advocate Counselor and conduct debriefs that include skill assessment and goal setting
- Creating and implementing programming for small groups of campers focused on wellness and social-emotional learning
- Hold and participate in meetings between guardians and Advocate Counselors prior to and throughout the summer
- Meet with other supervisors, as needed, to gain further insight on specific campers
- Communicating specific camper needs and managing relationships with parents/caregivers of campers with Advocate Counselors, with the support of the ACD and CD

Advocate Counselor – Camp at the J
The Advocate Counselor provides 1:1 or 1:2 support to campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, and inclusion in all camp activities. They collaborate with the Community Life Coordinator to develop and implement individualized behavior plans, adapt group activities, and provide scaffolding tools to meet their campers’ needs. Advocate Counselors actively promote inclusion, assist with swim activities, and facilitate small or alternative activities when necessary to support their campers. Additionally, they participate in staff training, maintain a clean and safe camp environment, and uphold Camp at the J’s policies and procedures.
- Work with Advocate Coordinator to assist in the development of individualized behavior plans, consistently adjusting as the summer progresses
- Implement routines, schedules, and procedures for the operation of the camp; adjust according to your camper(s) needs and capabilities
- Provide scaffolding items to provide support for your camper (such as daily schedules, digital timers, fidgets, etc.)
- Be prepared to discretely pivot in the day at any given time; this may look like:
- Gaining approval from the Unit Head or Community Life Coordinator to join a different activity
- Organizing a smaller activity adjacent to the bunk activity (such as lanyards or friendship bracelets)
- Identifying a calming space and facilitating “cool down” activities
- Actively promote inclusion throughout the camp via small group discussions, role modeling, and intentional group planning
- Work with counselors to adapt group activities so that all children can be included
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 18 years of age or older, generally have worked as a counselor in prior summers at Camp at the J
- Secondary education and/or training in youth psychiatry, elementary education, family therapy, or related field
- Prior experience working with children, particularly those who may need additional adult support
- Prior experience designing and implementing program adjustments for children
- Actively utilizes empathy, patience, and intentional positivity in the workplace
- Ability to accept guidance, constructive feedback, and support from teammates

Junior Counselor – Camp at the J
Jr. Counselors (JC’s) generally have some or no experience working with school-age students and work collaboratively with and under the guidance of Seniors. JC’s may be asked to perform more individual, specific tasks as the SC oversees the entire group. JC’s are a key part of the team who demonstrate what is expected of all counselors and understand the importance of role modeling as they are the first stage in a career working at camp.
- Care and general welfare of everyone in their bunk; safety is top priority
- Assisting campers/bunks in transitions between activities, to and from the pool, to and from the bathroom and during check in/check out
- Providing small activity options for campers to pivot who do not want to participate in the group activity
- Collaborate with Sr. Counselor when dealing with any camper issue or misbehavior; may fill out or assist with completing an incident report
- Supporting and facilitating high-quality daily activities for our campers
- Other duties, as assigned
- 16 years of age or older
- Prior experience working with children, families, or other related roles
- Actively utilizes empathy, patience, and intentional positivity in the workplace
- Able to take direction from senior staff
- Able to pivot from planned activities on short notice

Senior Counselor – Camp at the J
Senior Counselors (Seniors) generally have at least one year of experience working with school-age students and are expected to be a role model and leader of the staff. Seniors are responsible for planning, setting the tone, and the safety/care of the entire bunk. They can facilitate almost any general camp activity and may have training in specialized activities.
- Care for and general welfare of everyone in their bunk; safety is top priority
- Create and maintain an open-minded, safe, positive, and fun environment that campers are excited to be part of
- Work collaboratively with Jr. Counselor to plan bunk-based activities
- Collaborate with Jr. Counselor when dealing with any camper issue or misbehavior and ensure it is communicated to the supervisory staff
- Facilitate high-quality daily activities for our campers
- Provide ongoing informal feedback to Jr. Counselors based on observed behaviors
- Other duties, as assigned
- 18 years of age or older; may be substituted for prior Jr. Counselor experience at Camp at the J (min one summer)
- Secondary education and/or training in elementary education, child psychology, or related field
- Prior experience working with children, families, or other related roles

- Able to coach members of your bunk group towards successful outcomes

Support Coordinator – Camp at the J
The Support Coordinator plays a vital role in assisting the Activities Coordinator with planning and executing weekly camp activities, skits, and events that align with the camp’s themes and values. They are responsible for preparing and organizing materials, decorations, and props for theme days and special activities, ensuring everything is ready for smooth event execution. The Support Coordinator also supports daily camp operations by assisting counselors with tasks such as camper transitions, supply management, and covering breaks, all while fostering a positive and energetic camp environment.
- First line of support to Activities Coordinator, duties may include:
- Construction of materials related to weekly themes, values, skits
- Set up/tear down of big camp events
- Set up/tear down of daily activities
- Inventory of equipment and requests for new purchases
- Gathering and setting up props/decorations for theme days and/or weekly themes
- Number one cheerleader for all camp activities; embody the magic and spirit
- Team-lead and facilitator/host for all-camp events
- Under the direction of the Activities Coordinator, ensure that all storylines, staffing, and materials related to the weekly themes have been confirmed and communicated staff wide at least one week prior
- Under the guidance and direction of the Activities Coordinator, rotate to support different groups, people, and activities during a camp day
- May be asked to assist with additional staff needs as they arise
- Generally supporting the operations of camp in whatever way is needed at the time
- Plan and facilitate weekly special elective activities
- Assist with facilitation of daily activities, as needed
- Works with rest of Program Team to ensure Shabbat is properly set up and organized each week
- Other duties, as assigned
- 18 years of age or older, generally have worked as a counselor in prior summers at Camp at the J
- Secondary education and/or training in recreation management, elementary education, child psychology, or related field
- Prior experience in planning events, managing staff, communicating with large audiences, etc.

Unit Head – Camp at the J
The Unit Head is responsible for supporting counselors with camper behavior management, overseeing attendance and bunk assignments, and ensuring safe, smooth transitions and activities, including at the pool. They provide ongoing coaching and conduct observational evaluations of counselors, coordinate staffing and scheduling needs, and actively participate in staff training, workshops, and event planning. Additionally, the Unit Head upholds safety standards, fosters a positive camp environment, and collaborates with leadership on various initiatives to enhance camper and staff experiences.
- First-line of counselor support for general camper issues after a counselor has already attempted to address these issues (generally this looks like camper misbehavior that compromise safety or negatively impacts group dynamic)
- Oversight of daily attendance and bunk assignments; working closely with the Assistant Director and Sr. Counselors to adjust, as needed
- Daily, regular informal check-ins and coaching with counselors
- Perform at least two observational sessions and debriefs (first half of summer and second half of summer) of all counselors using real-life examples of actions, accomplishments, and goal-setting
- Role modeling expected behavior from counselors with special attention to safety
- Other duties, as assigned

Group Fitness Instructor
Ensuring that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising
Arriving to teach class in advance of the scheduled time to greet participants, answer questions and address concerns
Dressing in uniform when teaching exercise classes
Arriving well-prepared, music cued and routine thought out
Knowing the names of participants who attend your classes
Sharing educational information with your class participants
Teaching classes with energy and enthusiasm
Motivating class participants to the best of your ability
Noting new participants and sharing basic exercise information with them
Keeping up-to-date on safety and fitness trends
Reporting any equipment/facility problems to the management team
Begins and ends all classes on time.

Marketing Project Manager
The Project Manager is responsible for assisting with planning, monitoring and documenting marketing aspects of projects related to JCC programming from inception to completion. The Project Manager serves as a liaison between the Marketing Department and other JCC departments and works in collaboration with the Marketing Director to determine each project’s scope and to establish a timeline for its completion.
- Develops and implements processes that improve the efficacy of project completion
- Provides project oversight for marketing staff, individually and as a team
- Works collaboratively with Marketing Director to establish appropriate budget, timeline, and scope of each project
- Monitors progress and adjusts project plans as needed to ensure that projects are completed correctly and on time
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with all JCC department managers and serves as liaison between the Marketing Department and internal clients
- Participates in scheduled in-services, monthly team meetings, and other meetings as requested
- Creates and manages forms and surveys for programming staff.
- Prints needed materials for programs and departments.

Early Childhood Teacher
The JCC Early Childhood School provides a high-quality, age appropriate curriculum that encourages development, curiosity, imagination, and self-esteem. Massage Therapist
