7 Tips for Meeting the Holiday Season with a Good Mindset

Rosh Hashanah

We asked Louis Liner, our resident social worker, for the best tips and tricks to managing mental health during the holidays. Here is his advice.

As we approach the holiday season, it is important to manage your mental health. A good way to do this is to set realistic expectations, maintain healthy routines, and establish clear boundaries as to what you are able and willing to do.

  • When setting boundaries and expectations, it is important to remember that it is okay to say no, or to skip events that drain your energy.
  • Remember that you don’t have to be perfect. You can still have a good time and make happy moments without everything being your idea of “ideal.”
  • Try to limit social media, particularly time spent scrolling. This can avoid comparisons. Remember, social media posts are often made to present perfection, and we should know that they are often not fully accurate.
  • Keep practicing your daily habits such as a regular sleep schedule, healthy and balanced meals, and physical activity.
  • Take breaks if you need them; take breaks if you don’t think you need them.
  • Breathing exercises or quiet time just sitting can help re-center your nervous system.
  • Get outside or take a short walk to get some natural daylight; it can help boost your mood.

Combining mindfulness with boundary setting allows you to recognize internal distress early and respond with calm, clear limits. Practicing these tools ensures you protect your emotional well-being and mental equilibrium.
